XAT 2013 is a common entrance test for admission into academic programmes of XLRI and more than 70 other Institutes.
This year the XAT entrance exam was held on 6th January,2013 at various test centers across the nation. Thousands of aspirants participated in the exam to get admission in prestigious management colleges of the country. There are almost 70 management institutes which accept XAT exam score to enroll students into their B-Schools. This year the paper came up with few changes such as there were 85 questions asked as compared to 100 questions of last year. This year the marking slabs were different. There were three slabs of marking 1 mark, 1.5 marks and 2 marks. The questions asked in the XAT exam were easy as compared to previous year's questions. But as there were some changes in the paper pattern, so it was a different experience for students. The XAT 2012 ended with happy note as there were no flaws in the exam and students did not complained about any error in questions.
The analysis of the exam is really important for all those students who have taken the exam and want to evaluate themselves. By doing this evaluation they will come to know that how many questions they have attempted right or in which sections they have performed well. It will also help them to check their chances of getting good score in XAT 2013. XAT analysis will also be helpful for those students who want to appear in next XAT 2013 so that they will come to know about the exam pattern and can prepare accordingly.
Here we will discuss XAT 2012 question paper based on which student can get idea about XAT 2012 Analysis.
XAT 2012 paper had following sections:
1. General Awareness
There were 30 questions in General Awareness section and the level of difficulty was high.
2. Analytical Reasoning and Decision
There were 25 questions in the section and the level of difficulty was high. This was one section which bothers students every year. This year too the questions asked in this section were tough. Most of the questions were difficult and time consuming. Overall, a good candidate can attempt 16 questions and manage to get score of around 11 if he/she have attempted the questions well. The expected cut-off was 6.5-7.
3. Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning
As compared to last year XAT 2012 verbal ability section was much easier. Overall the sections was much simple and in this sections students might not felt blocked in any question. There ware total 32 questions asked in this section. Overall, an average student can attempt 22 or more questions in this section and a good score can range between 17-19 in this sections if students have attempted good number of questions. The expected cut-off score in this section is 11.
3. Data Interpretation and Quantitative Ability
In this section major questions were not asked from higher maths, this brings smile on the faces of students as they did not need to put extra efforts to solve the mathematical problems. There were total 28 questions asked in this section. The paper was well planned that it carried variety of questions which enabled every one to attempt it. There were all type of questions asked in the paper so that all type of students can attempt the paper. Questions based on bars and graphs were tedious and time consuming. In this sections if a student have attempted 19 or more questions it can be considered as good and score of 16 can be considered as good score for the section.
XAT has sectional cutoff for XLRI and XIMB. In addition to allotted 2 hrs for the above sections, students have 20 minutes to write XAT essay. XAT essay will not be considered for Percentile calculation. They will have subjective weightage by individual institutes. Generally social, economic topics predominate the essay section.
To get good XAT results, students should properly do XAT 2012 analysis, start with the strongest section and end with the second strongest section. The students should attempt the weakest section in the middle of the test. Students should practice solving XAT question papers of previous year to get an idea of XAT paper structure and refer to XAT answer key for correct answers. Referring to XAT question papers and XAT answer key is a great way to improve your performance and hence get good XAT result. The admission to various XAT institutes is based on written test XAT result, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
XAT 2012 result will be declared in the First Week of February.
